5754 Alloy: A Typical Car Aluminum Alloy

At present, the lightweight materials used in passenger cars are mainly high-strength steel and aluminum alloy. Aluminum alloy is an ideal lightweight material for automobiles. The car aluminum improves vehicle safety and fuel economy while reducing carbon emissions throughout the life cycle of the automobile.

The 5000 series alloy is divided into high-magnesium aluminum alloy with high strength and good formability, bu more sensitive to intergranular corrosion; medium-magnesium aluminum alloy with good intergranular corrosion resistance and good formability; low-magnesium aluminum alloy with relatively low strength.

5754 aluminum sheet is mostly used by automobile manufacturers abroad. Door panels, engine covers, or trunk covers are all made of 5754 aluminum sheet. The corrosion resistance, light weight, and high strength of this product are the main reasons why it is favored by automobile manufacturers. However, the price of 5754 aluminum sheet is much higher than that of traditional galvanized steel sheet.

5754 aluminum plate is a medium-strength aluminum alloy plate with a magnesium alloy content of 2.6-3.6. It has good anti-rust and corrosion resistance, no color difference on the anodized surface, excellent processing performance, excellent corrosion resistance, high fatigue strength, and high weldability. Usually 5754 aluminum plate will be processed into H111 state or H0 state through annealing.

ABS sheet is the abbreviation of Auto Body Sheet. It is specially used for punching sheet metal parts for passenger cars. It is a kind of aluminum plate and strip with the highest production technology threshold and the largest output. The thickness is 0.8mm~1.8mm and the width is usually 800mm~2200mm.

Among many aluminum alloys, 5-series and 6-series aluminum alloys have excellent application effects in the field of automobile manufacturing. It seems almost impossible to study new alloys and create a brand-new ABS aluminum alloy series. We can only optimize the alloy composition on the basis of the existing 6xxx series alloys to create an ABS outer plate alloy with better comprehensive performance than 6016 alloy. On the basis of the existing 5xxx series alloys, we can create an inner plate ABS alloy with better comprehensive performance than 5754 alloy.
