Aluminum 5052 5754 for Car Body

The lightweight of car chassis’s return in oil consumption and operation is much more than that of other parts. The car chassis includes the steering system, suspension system, braking system and driving system, which is an important component of the car, accounting for 30% of the weight of the whole car.

Reducing the weight of the chassis can not only reduce fuel consumption, but also improve the handling and comfort of the vehicle. Commonly used aluminum alloys for for automobile bottom guards and automobile gas storage tanks include 5083, 5754 and 5052.

Aluminium 5754 grade material belongs to Al-Mg aluminum, which has the characteristics of medium strength, good corrosion resistance, weldability and easy processing and forming. Aluminum alloys for car doors should have high fatigue resistance and excellent corrosion resistance, as well as excellent processing properties. The use of 5754 aluminum plate in the car door can make the travel more comfortable. The car door will be easy to close and the noise is small.

In foreign countries, car door, hood panels or trunk covers are all made of 5754 aluminum plates. The excellent corrosion resistance, light weight and high strength of of 5754 aluminum sheet are the main reasons why it is attracted by automobile manufacturers. However, the price of 5754 aluminum sheet is much higher than that of traditional galvanized steel sheet, so it is rarely used in middle and low-end cars.

5052 aluminum plate is of light weight and high strength and has good formability, corrosion resistance, and weldability. It is an aluminum alloy that cannot be strengthened by heat treatment, so it is mainly used in parts with complex shapes such as inner panels of the body. 5052 aluminum alloy can be used in automobile skins, doors and sheet metal parts, etc., which has obvious advantages in reducing the weight of automobiles.

The bending 5052 aluminum has a higher strength to weight ratio than mild steel. Therefore, 5052 aluminum sheets are often used in larger vehicle extrusion areas. The use of this metal in larger crush areas not only increases safety, but also improves performance.

Firstly, the weight reduction allows for shorter stopping distances. After all, we all know that a short stopping distance can be the difference between a mistake or a fatal collision. Secondly, when comparing the strength-to-weight ratio of metals, the properties of 5052 aluminum allow it to absorb twice the impact energy of mild steel. By fabricating a vehicle's crush zone from 5052 aluminum sheet instead of steel, engineers can design the crush zone.

This means that the 5052 aluminum sheet can be engineered to fold in a very specific and predictable way in the event of a crash. Therefore, the 5052 aluminum plate can absorb the energy of the collision and help ensure the safety of passengers. This is extremely important in passenger cars.
