5182 and 6111 Aluminum Alloys for Automobile Manufacturing
Aluminum is widely used in the lightweight automotive industry for its high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and excellent formability and machinability. It can reduce vehicle weight, energy consumption, and emissions.
The inner body panels are basically made of 5182 aluminum alloy and 6181A alloy, while the outer body panels are mainly made of 6016, 6111, and 6022 alloys. The size of aluminum alloy plates for car bodies is mainly concentrated in thickness of 0.7-3mm and width of 900-2130mm.
5182 aluminum plate belongs to the high-strength aluminum-magnesium alloy with good corrosion resistance, excellent weldability, good cold workability, and medium strength. The main alloying element of 5182 is magnesium, and a small amount of silicon is added, so the welding performance of 5182 aluminum plate is very good by gas welding, argon arc welding, spot welding and roll welding.
Since 5182 aluminum sheet has excellent deformability, it can absorb the impact force well when it is hit by external force, and protect the driver and passengers to a greater extent. Therefore, the four doors and two covers made of 5182 aluminum alloy are safer.
For car doors, car hoods, front and rear fenders, etc., our current mature product is 5182 alloy sheet. The stamping effect of Haomei Aluminum's 5182 alloy sheet is good. According to customer feedback, there is no crack after stamping. The thickness range of 5182 aluminum alloy is 0.15-600mm, and the width range is 20-2600mm (cut according to customer needs).
At present, the aluminum alloy sheets for automobile bodies used for stamping are mainly three grades of aluminum alloys: AA6016, AA6022 and AA6111. 6111 aluminum alloy is an aluminum alloy used for automobile covering parts. Its favorable properties include corrosion resistance and precipitation hardening resistance. 6111 t4 aluminum is its common temper.
In the early 1980s, North America and Europe developed high-Cu 6111 aluminum alloy and low-Cu 6016 aluminum alloy respectively. The 6111 alloy with a higher Cu content has higher paint hardening performance and exhibits the characteristics of dual-phase strengthening, with the strengthening phases being Mg2Si phase and Al-Cu-Mg-Si phase. Europe mostly uses 6016 alloy, and the United States prefers 6111 alloy.
