High Conductive 6101 Aluminum Plate
6101 aluminum plate is a high conductive aluminium alloy. It is widely used in the field of electrical conductivity due to the high specific strength, good electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance and formability. 6101 aluminum is commonly used in high-strength aluminum materials for buses, electrical conductors and radiators, bus conductors, etc.
To meet increasingly stringent engineering demands, conductive aluminum alloys need to have both high strength and good electrical conductivity. There are the common methods of strengthening aluminum alloys, such as alloying, strain strengthening and precipitation strengthening, etc.
They are equivalent to increasing the solid solution atoms of alloying elements, introducing crystal defects (point defects, dislocations, grain boundaries, etc.) and producing high-density precipitation, thus reducing the elecrical conductivity. Therefore, high strength and high electrical conductivity cannot be achieved in conductive aluminum alloys strengthened by traditional methods.
After the introduction of pre-strain and pre-aging on the basis of artificial aging, the mechanical properties and electrical conductivity of 6101 aluminum alloy are improved. When the solid solution alloy is deformed by 60% cold rolling and then aged at 180 °C for 6 h, the yield strength, tensile strength and electrical conductivity of the alloy are 249 MPa, 262 MPa and 55.7% IACS, respectively, which is higher than conventional artificially aged alloys that reach peak ageing conditions.
When the alloy is pre-aged at 180 °C for 2 h, subjected to 60% cold rolling deformation and then aged at 220 °C for 6 h, the electrical conductivity of the alloy is as high as 59.8% IACS, although its yield strength and tensile strength decreased to 183 MPa and 198 MPa respectively, but ts excellent electrical conductivity still makes it useful.
The interaction of strain strengthening and precipitation strengthening after the introduction of pre-strain and pre-aging is the fundamental reason for the improvement of mechanical and electrical properties of 6101 aluminum alloy.
